Commercial s.e.x workers were evicted from a hotel at Ugbague area of Benin in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State over fear of possible spread of coronavirus in the area.
Speaking with journalists, the Owner of the facility who only gave his name as Osagie, said the eviction became necessary because of the way the virus spreads from person-to-person.

He said there is high possibility that if one of the prostitutes contracted the virus , she will spread it to her colleagues in the brothel.

He said,

“I asked the prostitutes occupying my buildings to go home and meet their children and families at their various states because if any man who has the virus, meets any of them, they can easily share it among themselves.

“Like me now, I have children and I can’t ask my children not to embrace me and you know that these prostitutes are occupying my buildings and I am the one managing the facilities and so, I asked them to go home and stay with their children until the coronavirus is over”

 

 

According to him, it is better to die of hunger than to die of a disease.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi,The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and other religious and traditional leaders have called for prayers to end COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
They have scheduled a national intercession for Monday, April 6, by noon.In a statement yesterday, the grand patron of Legacy Initiative International Advocacy (LIIA), Mr. Kenny Martins, emphasised the need to commit the current happenings in the world into the hands of God through a national day of prayers.

His stated,

“Nigeria and the rest of the world, in the last three months, have been bedevilled by the coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19, which has become pandemic in proportion and killed thousands of people all over the world.

“Legacy Initiative International Advocacy has been in consultation all week with the traditional and religious leaders and their colleagues from other parts of the country on the need to commit what is happening in the world today to God through a national day of prayer, and each of these leaders have given his support for the prayers.

“In the light of the foregoing, Monday, April 6, has been declared National Day of Prayer. Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora have been urged to go on their knees for 10 minutes at this precise hour by stopping everything we are doing, anywhere we are to pray for God’s grace and intervention in this ravaging coronavirus pandemic.”

Describing the development as ‘heartbreaking’, Ghebreyesus stated that the number of infections among doctors and care personnel is especially alarming.

“When the people who take care of the sick become ill themselves, many more people will die,’’ he warned.

He also called on Group of 20 countries to work together to ratchet up the production of protective gear.

Tedros also said that those materials must be distributed fairly and arrive where they are needed most.

Meanwhile, Nigeria on Monday confirmed its first coronavirus death and 36th case.

The victim is a 67-year-old man who returned to the country following medical treatment in the United Kingdom, UK.

He was identified as a former Managing Director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Suleiman Achimugu.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Office have arrested a suspected internet fraud kingpin, Onwuzuruike Kingsley Ikenna (a.k.a Nwanta Anayoeze Yonaracha).

The suspect was arrested in his residence on Uzuakoli Road by Umuada Junction, Umuahia, Abia State on January 26, 2020, following intelligence on his alleged fraudulent internet activities.

Ikenna’s specialty is Business Email Compromise (BEC) and identity fraud. His victims allegedly include a major United States bank.

Properties linked to the suspects include a mansion with swimming pool, a petrol station and nine units of three bedroom apartments, all in Umuahia and a palatial bungalow in his village.
