    Skit maker and content creator Abdulgafar Ahmad Oluwatoyin, also known as Cute Abiola, has debunked reports that he bought a brand new car for the father of late Nigerian rapper Mohbad.

    Some blogs recently reported that the comedian bought “a new Lexus car worth N20 million for Mohbad’s dad.”

    But reacting via a video message shared on his Instagram page, Cute Abiola said he didn’t buy a car for Mr. James Aloba nor promise the late singer’s father a car as speculated.

    He said,

    “Let me debunk this rumour immediately. I never bought a car for Mohbad’s dad.

    “And I didn’t even promise him a car talk less of saying I bought him a car… Buy car for Mohbad’s dad for what?”

    The skit maker said the rumours were the handiwork of mischief makers, warning them to stop chasing clout with his name.

    The House of Representatives has assured that it will ensure the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, receives proper compensation and royalties from his music work.

    Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, Hon. Olumide Osoba, made the commitment at an interactive session on the rights and royalties related to Mohbad’s music.

    This was in compliance with a motion of urgent public importance moved last week by Hon. Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos) to secure the royalties of Mohbad’s song.

    Osoba emphasised the need of securing compensation and royalties, acknowledging that the payments were essential sources of income for musicians.

    He said such will enable artists to sustain their careers, create new music, and build a future within the industry, adding that the current system often falls short in adequately protecting and providing for young musicians concerning their royalty rights.

    Osoba said many emerging artists face challenges when negotiating fair royalty agreements, particularly when dealing with major record labels, which often wield significant power and can impose unfavourable terms, resulting in artists receiving only a fraction of the royalties they deserve.

    He said: “It is crucial to recognise that young musicians are often not well-informed about their rights when entering into contracts.”

    The lawmaker said such knowledge gap places them at a disadvantage position, as they may not fully understand the complex legal intricacies surrounding royalty rights.

    He said the responsibility rests on society to bridge the knowledge gap and ensure that young musicians are aware of their rights while having access to legal support that safeguards their interests.

    According to him, to address these issues, it was vital to work towards implementing stronger regulations and support systems within the industry.

    This includes advocating for more transparent and standardised contracts for all artists, irrespective of their age or experience, to level the playing field and prevent the exploitation of young talent.

    “Additionally, there is a need to adapt the music industry to the digital age. While digital streaming platforms have revolutionized music consumption and distribution, young musicians often struggle to earn a substantial income due to outdated royalty structures.

    “Advocating for revised royalty models that accurately reflect the value of music in the streaming era is essential,” Osoba stated.

    He added that the committee was committed to this responsibility, adding that they have requested relevant information regarding the circumstances of Mohbad’s death and the measures in place to secure his royalties and other benefits.

    Mohbad Was Never Arrested By NDLEA – Spokesman

    The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has spoken about the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad.

    The agency said that contrary to reports that went viral in the media and online, Mohbad was never arrested by the agency.

    The spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said, “We also heard the unsubstantiated allegation on social media that Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, was arrested and detained by the NDLEA on February 24, 2022, and given a substance to drink. In response to this allegation, we wish to state categorically that Mohbad was never arrested; neither was he ever detained in the custody of the NDLEA on the said date or any other date before or after. The foregoing being the case, the issue of giving him any substance to drink does not arise.”

    The NDLEA also stated that contrary to a claim by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, that the police were expecting feedback from the anti-narcotics agency over an inquiry into the singer’s death, it had responded to the police’s inquiry since September 28, 2023.

    In a letter dated September 28, and signed by the Deputy Commander-General of Narcotics, Josephine Obi, which was obtained by our correspondent on Saturday, the NDLEA categorically informed the police that Mohbad was neither arrested nor detained in the custody of the agency.

    Babafemi added:-

    “Following media inquiries on the claim by the Lagos State Police Command at a press conference on Friday, October 6, 2023, that it was yet to get a response from the NDLEA on social media allegations bordering on alleged arrest and detention of the late artiste, the agency will like to state that indeed, its response was sent and received by the police since Thursday, September 28, 2023.

    “Indeed, to show the seriousness with which the agency treated the issue, our formal response dated Thursday, September 28, 2023, was sent by flight to Lagos, delivered and received by the police on the same day.”

    While briefing the media on the results of the police’s investigation so far on Friday, October 6, Owohunwa said, “While re-assuring that the command will sustain its firm determination to ensure justice in this case, I wish to assure that the members of the public will be availed of any further development in relation to the outcomes of the autopsy and toxicology reports, DPP advice, feedback from NDLEA and any other development in the investigation into this case.”

    Joseph Aloba, the father of Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, has disclosed how the late singer met his wife, Wunmi, at Naira Marley’s Marlian Music label.
    Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, in Lagos State.

    While describing Mohbad as a simple and modest individual, he added that the duo had known each other at a very tender age at Oke-Iletu, Ikorodu, Lagos, before they were able to reconnect at Naira Marley’s label.

    However, before they reconnected, there was no string attached between them.

    Wunmi is said to have given birth to Liam, son of the deceased.

    Clarifying this through the song “Komajensun” which Mohbad sang in 2020, Aloba spoke of a lyric, “Naira lo gbe omo fun mi, I’m not a womaniser”, in the song referencing how Mohbad reconnected with Wunmi at Marlian record.

    “

    He (Mohbad) met the lady (Wunmi) there (at Marlian Music) but they had known each other from Oke-Iletu, even though the lady was a student then,” Aloba disclosed to punch.
    The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to the artiste’s death.

    Meanwhile, the Coroner’s inquest into the death of Mohbad has fixed October 13, 2023, for witnesses to appear before it.

    Attorney Funmi Falana, who represented Mohbad’s family, alongside other lawyers, had closed-door proceedings to discuss the modalities for hearing of evidence.

    Speaking to the journalist after the proceedings, Falana said,

    “What we did today was to decide how and when the procedures would help get justice. The date has been fixed and will be bringing our witnesses.”

    The House of Representatives has invited the Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) to develop ways to protect the rights of late Ilerioluwa Aloba, AKA Mohbad’s songs and lyrics.

    The move was made following the adoption of a motion by Rep. Babajimi Benson(APC-Lagos) at the resumed plenary in Abuja on Tuesday, September 26.

    Moving the motion, Benson, said that Mohbad tragically passed away under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday, September 12, and his name had continued to make headlines and dominate discussions across and beyond the nation.

    He said there had been protests and a procession of youths chanting his name and the call for an investigation as they marched to a tribute concert, with numerous musicians in attendance.

    The rep said it was evident that Mohbad’s fans were struggling to come to terms with his untimely demise, adding that Mohbad also known as Imole, “light” in Yoruba, was an artist who sang of peace and light.

    He further said Mohbad left his record label, Marlian Records, owned by Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley) in 2022, citing various grievances, including unpaid royalties.

    Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has slammed those condemning the father of the late Nigerian musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, for burying him hastily.

    We reported that Mohbad, who died on September 12 controversially, was buried the following day, Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

    The burial seems not to have sat well with many of the singer’s fans, who took to social media to call out the ‘peace’ hitmaker’s father for burying him without proper arrangements and investigations.

    Reacting to the condemnation trailing Mohbad’s burial, Seun Kuti, in his recent interview with media personality Nedu’s Thehonestbunch podcast, stated that the deceased father only receives condemnation because he is poor.

    “Poverty is playing a big role in this whole Mohbad issue. People are saying Mohbad’s father killed him because he buried him early. Who will be looking at his son’s dead body for two to three days?”

    He queried.

    Speaking in Pidgin, Kuti asked,

    “If na Otedola pikin die and he bury am overnight, wetin anybody go talk here? No be sey una go dey give am condolences visit for house?

    “Instead of us to be consoling the man, we are making him evil that can kill his son. Somebody that just lost his child. You like the boy pass am na hin dem dey bully the boy all these days and you no talk anything.”

    Controversial Nollywood actress, Moyo Lawal, has accused those agitating justice for late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba aka, Mohbad, of almost dragging her into depression.

    Recall that the movie star recently set the internet ablaze after her sex tape was leaked, which she claimed that the content happened years ago.

    NAIJALOADED learnt that the video that went viral on social media, showed the faces of the actress and her ex-boyfriend on a bed, and it generated backslash and criticism online.

    However, reacting to the show of love Mohbad received after his death, the trending hashtag #justiceformohbad on all social media platforms and the nationwide protests, demanding justice for the deceased singer, Moyo Lawal, in a post via her Instagram page described the act as one-sided justice.

    She wrote:

    His songs, ‘Peace’, ‘Feel Good’, ‘Ask About Me’, ‘Beast and Peace’ are among the top 10 songs on Apple Music Nigeria.

    Tacha Hails Police For Firing Tear Gas At People During MohBad’s Candlelight

    Even though the Lagos State Police command has been dragged for the development at the Mohbad candlelight procession, Tacha, in the latest video, decided to hail them for the job well done.

    The candlelight procession for the late Mohbad was held yesterday, September 21st, 2023, and it was graced by several Nigerians, including celebrities like Davido, Abu Abel, Zlatan Ibile, and Kiekie, among others.

    However, the justice for Mohbad during the candlelight procession did not end well, as many got injured after police officers fired tear gas at the people.

    Reacting to this, Police debunked the false narratives making the rounds that they killed and injured anyone as they asserted that the Lagos State Police Command had an agreement with the organizers of the candlelight procession that the procession was to end at 8 p.m.

    In their words;

    “It is instructive to note that the Lagos State Police Command had an agreement with the organizers of the candle light procession that the procession was to end at 8pm latest and should terminate at Muri Okunola, Victoria Island. It was clearly stated for avoidance of doubt that in the interest of all Lagosians and considering the heavy use of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, the Lekki Toll Gate would be a no-go area.”

    “This persuasion and appeal went on for hours, to which the police and organizers met defiance, both in words and action. At this point, all lanes in and out of Lekki had been totally blocked.

    “Therefore, in fulfillment of our mandate to protect life and property, maintain law and order and prevent crimes, we adopted the least harmful method of crowd dispersal, following the failure of verbal persuasion – the use of teargas. Not a single live ammunition was fired!”

    Speaking personally on the event at the Lekki Toll-Gate, Tacha showers encomium on the Lagos State Police Officers for firing tear gas at people during the candlelight procession.

    She noted that the people had been distracted from the hashtag justice for Mohbad following their refusal to leave Lekki at 8 p.m.

    Tacha noted that the people tried to turn it into a protest just like Endsars with the narrative they spread later in the night at the Mohbad candlelight procession.
